
Cameron Gillie is a Minnesota native who attended the Colorado Institute of Art to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a photojournalist. He started his newspaper photography career as an intern in 1993 at the Greeley Tribune in Colorado, becoming a staff photographer for the Tribune soon after. At the Tribune, Cameron began his award-winning career quickly becoming ranked one of the top 10 photojournalists in the Rocky Mountain region by the National Press Photographers Association. These recognitions and his portfolio caught the eye of the Naples Daily News in Florida. Cameron joined the staff of the Daily news in 1996. The Naples Daily News photography staff is nationally recognized as one of the best photographic newspapers in the country, three-time winner of the best use of photography in the prestigious Pictures of the Year contest. At the Daily News Cameron again made the National Press Photographers Association list of the top ten photojournalists, this time in the highly competitive Southeastern United States region. Cameron’s list of accomplishments include, 6 national awards and 16 regional awards from the National Press photographers Association, twice named the runner up for the Scripps Howard Photographer of the Year, and dozens of regional and state awards; A career total of over 50 awards
Cameron left the newspaper industry in July of 2003 to expand his photographic horizons by becoming a freelance photographer and to be with his girlfriend (and now wife) Nazan, who was a marine scientist studying the effects of Mississippi runoff in the Gulf of Mexico. Cameron quickly made a name for himself as one of the top photojournalism wedding photographers in New Orleans.
Over the past 4 years, Cameron has made his mark in the wedding photography industry. He was named one the the top ten photographers in the nation by the Wedding Photojournalist Association for the awards he won in the 2004 contests. Cameron has been honored by the Wedding Photojournalist Association with a total of over 25 international awards! Cameron is one of the most award winning members of the internationally recognized Wedding Photojournalism Association.
In the fall of 2007 Nazan accepted a research position at the Center for Climate Research at the University of Wisconsin in Madison studying global warming. Nazan and Cameron have settled in Madison, Wisconsin where Cameron is continuing his successful wedding photojournalism business.
Nazan and Cameron are enjoying their new home in the Upper Midwest, where the weather is sometimes cold, but the people are always warm.
